Section 1
How AI is changing medical science for patients
Across imaging, epilepsy monitoring, drug discovery, and clinical decision support, carefully validated AI tools can reduce missed findings, shorten time-to-treatment, and help doctors stay current. The ethical frame is simple: assistive, not autonomous — the physician remains responsible for diagnosis and treatment.

Real-life examples · where patients benefit
Selected examples from reputable medical AI progress — with links for further reading. Educational only; local care always depends on clinical assessment.
Stroke · CT timing · فالج
Estimating stroke onset from plain CT
AI methods are being studied to help estimate when a stroke started from non-contrast CT when the clock time is uncertain — information that can matter for reperfusion decisions. Our clinic digest summarises this translational work for patients and trainees.
Radiology ·
AI-assisted radiology triage & detection
Regulators such as the FDA maintain growing lists of AI/ML-enabled medical devices, including imaging tools that flag urgent findings for human review. The clinical value is prioritisation and second-look support — not unsupervised reporting.
Epilepsy ·
EEG pattern detection & seizure risk tools
Machine learning on EEG can help detect electrographic seizures and rare patterns faster in monitored settings. Interpretation and treatment plans remain with the epilepsy/neurology team.
Drug discovery ·
Structure prediction & discovery pipelines
Breakthroughs such as protein-structure prediction (AlphaFold and related work) accelerate how scientists understand disease targets — a long path from lab to bedside, but one that ultimately serves patients through better therapies.
Section 5
Patient privacy & PMDC professional ethics
Confidentiality first · رازداری پہلے
Patient privacy is kept confidential. This practice aligns with PMDC professional and ethical expectations for physicians in Pakistan: respect dignity, protect confidential information, practise within competence, and never substitute unvalidated tools for licensed clinical judgment.
- No identifiable leak: Patient data are not shared with public AI services in identifiable form. Where AI is used for education or drafting, information is minimised and de-identified.
- Physician remains responsible: AI is assistive. Diagnosis, operative decisions, prescriptions, and counselling accountability stay with Dr Wasif / the treating team.
- Safety measures: Prefer reputable, reviewed sources; cross-check AI outputs; avoid uploading scans, CNICs, phone numbers, or full histories into consumer chatbots.
- Informed clinical use: Patients may ask how tools support education or systems; they will not be asked to trust an algorithm over a medical examination.
This page states ethical principles and clinic practice standards. It does not quote specific PMDC regulation numbers that may change; always refer to current PMDC guidance for formal regulatory text.
