A brain aneurysm is a weakened bulge on a blood vessel wall. When it ruptures it causes subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH), a neurosurgical emergency. Emergency SAH work-up typically includes urgent CT brain; if SAH is confirmed or strongly suspected, vascular imaging (CT angiography, MR angiography, or catheter digital subtraction angiography) maps the aneurysm’s neck, dome, and relation to parent vessels. Unruptured aneurysms are characterised with similar angiographic studies and clinical review. The team considers grade of haemorrhage, hydrocephalus, vasospasm risk, and comorbidities.
